Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1990 and 2019 have recovered prehistoric worked flints, including burnt examples which may indicate the presence of a burnt mound. Other finds include Iron Age, Roman and Late Saxon to post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval brick and floor tile; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and post-medieval tokens; aswell as undated and Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undated metalworking debris; Roman and Early Saxon brooches; a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag, brooch, and strap-end; Late Saxon strap ends, a brooch, a spindle whorl, and a bridle cheekpiece; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval cauldron fragment, harness fitting, seal matrix, thimble, weight, vessel fragment, and a seal matrix; a medieval/post-medieval rowel spur; and post-medieval bells, a finger ring, harness mount, sword belt, and toy.

Silver gros of Flanders. Probably Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, Count Flanders 1467 to 1477. Obverse: Lion in shield of Arms of Flanders. KOROLIS-DEI-GRA-DVX-BVRG:CO FL. Reverse: Cross floriate. ?BENEDIC[TUS]….CREDITATI TVEM (alpha omega). Weight 2.745g.

Roman copper alloy disc brooch. Tutulus type, Central ribbed cone-shaped boss, gilded. 2nd century AD.
Bow of tiny copper alloy Roman Dolphin brooch. 22mm long. 1st century AD.
10th century openwork strap end fragment. Two rivets in single plate at top. Ribbed edge animal mask and openwork tendrils flanking it. ?part of same object as…
10th century strap end fragment in openwork, central stem flanked by foilage in a heart-shaped relief at terminal. Décor in ring and dot.

Medieval coin.
Middle Saxon/Late Saxon annular brooch. Circular 23mm diameter. Weight 6.19g. Reverse is corroded around pin fastening. Obverse carries a head facing right, with double border. Reminiscent of Frision imitations of solidi. 830 to 850 AD.
