Summary

Fieldwalking and metal detecting have led to the discovery of prehistoric, Roman, Saxon, medieval, post medieval and undated objects. The prehistoric items include worked flints, Iron Age pottery and an Iron Age brooch. The other finds include Roman pottery, Roman coins and an Early Saxon brooch.

Full description

Earlier 1998. Fair fieldwalking conditions. Site 5.
Three worked flints. List in file.
Fourteen Iron Age flint gritted body sherds, some oxidised, some reduced, some both. One with ?finger impressed rustications, in a row, some sherds quite fresh.
Two body sherds sandy ?Iron Age.
One base and one body sherd Roman grey.
One rim ?bowl, ?Roman grey, part oxidised on exterior. Rather coarse sandy. Might be post Roman.
Piece of iron slag.
Burnt flint.
