Summary

Metal-detecting at this location between 1992 and 2023 has recovered a large and diverse asssemblage of Roman finds that strongly suggests the presence of a Roman settlement at this location. This material comprises pottery sherds; tile fragments; copper alloy metal-working debris of possible Roman date; numerous coins (including a hoard of radiate coins and associated probable manufacturing material) and a range of other metal objects. These metal finds include brooches, bracelet fragments, probable harness mount fragments, horse-harness pendants, a spoon handle, openwork handle from razor or knife, cosmetic pestle, toilet spoon, toilet spoon or spoon probe fragment, rumbler bell, ring handle from furniture, openwork harness mount, terret, copper alloy hairpins, copper alloy nails, copper alloy probable vessel fragments, copper alloy stud, copper alloy mirror fragment, unidentified copper alloy object, copper alloy and silver finger rings and a silver mount.
Other finds from this site include Late Saxon/medieval pottery sherds; undatable lead metal-working waste; a post-medieval coin; post-medieval jettons; a post-medieval token and a range of other, undatable, Late Bronze Age, Iron Age and post-Roman metal objects. These metal finds include an undatable lead weight; a Late Bronze Age knife fragment; Iron Age brooches, an openwork harness fitting and linch pin; Late Iron Age/Roman brooches and a terret; Early Saxon brooch fragments; a Late Saxon stirrup terminal and box mount; medieval dress accessories, an end cap from scale-tang knife, unidentified copper alloy inscribed object and lead pot mend; a medieval/post-medieval purse frame fragment and copper alloy vessel fragment and a post-medieval crotal bell and lead plug of uncertain function.

Hoard I - a probable forger's hoard consisting of a wide range of components, all of which are either ingredients in the manufacture of radiate imitation coins, or imitations themselves.
Found in October 2004:
31 radiate minims dating to 269 to 284, with cut fragment of denarius of AD 164 to 169.
Found between November 2004 and May:
32 additional coins from hoard, including three more fragments of silver denarii that would have provided the silver content present in the radiate imitations.
Found 17 October 2005:
25 additional coins from hoard and one molten blob.

Hoard II.
Found in small area:
Hoard of ten 2nd-century sestertii and two 3rd-century bracelets (S4) (S5). The coins were heavily worn and it is likely that both these and the bracelets were intended for melting down to produce radiate imitations.
Declared Treasure 4 November 2005.
Other objects found on the same date include:
23 Roman coins (including 3 cut denarii, plus additional coins from Hoard I - see above), brooches, a finger ring, openwork handle of razor or knife, ring handle from furniture and copper alloy hairpin.
