Full description

18 to 26 September 2000. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks for a new sewer rising main.
A small undated pit was the only potentially archaeologically signficant feature observed. Finds recovered included 44 worked flints and 102 metal objects. The majority of the worked flints were of probable Late Neolithic/Bronze Age date, although one patinated blade was possibly Mesolithic/Early Neolithic. The bulk of the metal finds were modern (including 51 nails) and therefore discarded. The 26 objects that were retained included 2 Roman coins, a medieval/post-medieval riveted ?stiffening plate, 2 undatable horseshoe fragments and various undatable iron and copper alloy strips and unidentifiable fragments.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.450).
