Summary

Metal-detecting between 2000 and 2019 recovered prehistoric burnt and worked flint, including an Early Neolithic/Late Bronze Age borer and a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age scraper; undated, Iron Age, Roman, Early/Middle Saxon, Middle Saxon and medieval to post-medieval pottery sherds; Iron Age, Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons; a post-medieval token and Roman, Early Saxon, Late Saxon and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman brooch, key handle and a possible knife; a fragment of Early Saxon brooch; Late Saxon strap-ends; a medieval buckle, rotary key, seal matrix, weight, rowel spur and copper alloy vessel fragments; a medieval/post-medieval buckle, purse fragment, and sword or dagger pommel; and a post-medieval buckle, crotal bell, furniture fitting, strap fitting and copper alloy ring.
Cropmarks recorded in 1977 show this to be the site of an Iron Age/Roman farmstead, enclosure and field system (NHER 38744) and a medieval/post-medieval road (NHER 38743).
