Record Details

NHER Number:32503
Type of record:Monument
Name:Site of World War Two pillbox

Summary

A pillbox is visible on aerial photographs from 1969, located on the beach at Weybourne. A group of World War Two coastal defences were mapped near this location during the NMP from wartime photography under NHER 38626, and it seems likely that this pillbox is the remains of one of the large pillboxes recorded as part of that number.

May 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two coastal defences were mapped near this location during the NMP from wartime photography under NHER 38626. It seems likely that this feature is the remains of one of the large pillboxes recorded as part of NHER 38626. The pillbox is visible in 1969 at approximately TG 1110 4374 (S1), which places it further out to sea than the structures visible in the 1940s. However it is likely that this structure has suffered some movement through cliff erosion and was not mapped in its 1969 location.
See records NHER 38626 for full details.
