Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1991 and 2024 recovered medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval roof tile fragments; a medieval/post-medieval brick fragment; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and a range of other Roman and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include Roman brooches; a Late Saxon bridle side link; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval harness fittings, a purse frame, casket key, padlock slide key, bell, rowel spur, unusual 'S'-shaped hook, copper alloy stud, lead seal matrices, lead ampulla, fragment of lead wall or ceiling ornament and iron horseshoe; potentially medieval lead spindle whorls or weights; a medieval/post-medieval dagger or knife quillon, coin weight, copper alloy vessel fragments, a copper alloy staple, writing leads and lead weights and post-medieval crotal bells, a sword-belt hook and silver seal matrix.
The large selection of medieval objects recovered is probably indicative of a settlement of that date.
