NHER Number:25887
Type of record:Monument
Name:Iron Age settlement/industrial site and multi-period finds

Summary

Two fieldwalking surveys were undertaken on this site prior to the construction of the Wymondham Bypass. This work identified a spread of worked flints, 'pot boilers' and Iron Age pottery. In 1993 this was followed by an excavation which discovered the presence of an Iron Age settlement and/or industrial site here. Features excavated include pit groups, four-post structures, quarries, and evidence for bone or antler working. Other industrial activities were also noted, comprising flint working, iron smelting, and the quarrying of natural boulder clay. Iron Age pottery, animal bone, flint worked antler and slag were recovered.
