Summary
This is the site of a Roman settlement which extends into NHER 20378. Fieldwalking between 1983 and 1984 and metal-detecting in 2012 recovered a Roman coin, pottery sherds and tile fragments as well as prehistoric pottery and worked flints, and medieval and post-medieval pottery, coins and metal objects. The metal finds include a medieval seal matrix and medieval and post-medieval harness mounts.

Full description
1983 to 1984. Hales Survey site 113.
Field opposite road to Sisland. Arable field.
Finds; Context 1 - area towards east of wider part of field.
7 flints, 1 medieval jug rim ?glazed; 1 sherd medieval glazed; 12 late stoneware. China, glazed red earthenware etc; 1 slag fragment.
Context 2 at 3532 9828 against north side projection of field, possibly outlier of site 20378.
5 flint tools; 1 flint gritted prehistoric sherd; 11 rims and 34 sherds Roman greyware, mostly jars; 1 rim and 7 sherds Roman oxidised; 9 medieval unglazed. 2 sherds 1 base medieval glazed; 1 stoneware; 15 glazed red earthenware. 1 basalt ware; 1 clay pipe bowl fragment.
2 Roman box tiles and 2 Roman tiles; other brick/tile fragments.
Context 3 - area in centre of west side field; sample of 19th century pot and glass.
Flints from Context 2 are 4 flakes and 1 small scraper (J. Wymer (NAU), January 1985) and Context 1 = 6 flakes and 1 retouched.
