Full description

November 1978. Field Observation.
Disused brick works. Kiln marked on (S1).
Site covered by housing, but lodge remains.
Lodge (NHER 48344) is gothic style, two storeyed with wing walls ending in circular brick pillars, probably made from bricks from yard.
Information from record card (S2).
E. Rose (NAU), 29 November 1978.

April 2007. Documentary Research.
The brickworks is depicted on the 1840 Tithe Awared Map (S3).
The lodge mentioned is now recorded under NHER 48603.
E. Rose (NLA), 20 April 2007

July 2007. Trial Trenching.
Eight trial ternches were excavated across the eastern and northern portion of the site prior to housing development.
In the north of the area a portion of a brick and flint structure relating to the brickworks was recorded. This was likely part of a workshop or dwelling. Evidence of quarrying activity was observed throughout much of the site, and brick and tile of a uniform fabric (many of them over-fired) were also recovered. See NHER 50456 and report (S4) for additional details.
The mapped extent of this site has been extended to better reflect the historic mapped extent of the brickworks and incorporate the area of extraction [1].
