Name:Iron Age settlement

Summary

A scatter of Neolithic flints including scrapers, saws, part of a sickle blade, a fabricator, axeheads, an awl and arrowheads were found. Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered a scatter of pieces of medieval and Roman pot and a concentration of Iron Age pottery indicative of settlement.

Full description

1968 and earlier. Context 2 at 7025 9400c.
Late Neolithic flints, surface scatter, including Butt scraper, double and single sided saw, top of sickle blade, fabricator, trimming axe, butt of small axe, scrapers, awl, point and leaf shaped arrowheads, barbed and tanged arrowheads.

Context 1. General scatter over field that includes eastern half of context 2 above. MTW DB.
Odd sherds of medieval pot (not finished).

Context 3 at 7045 9417. MTW 113.
Concentration of Iron Age pottery, sparse, and a few flints not necessarily associated) and burnt pebbles. On very gentle chalk slope, below hillside min 48m northeast to southwest x 21m northwest to southeast at 4.6m OD.
