Full description

Late 18th century (after 1772) milestone. Limestone, wedge shaped with rounded top, 1 metre high. Recessed panels NORWICH 15 MILES ATTLEBORO 5 MILES sans serif. Indents with remains of rivets above. The road was turnpiked in 1772.

The Milestone Society have given the stone a 19th century date based on comparison with others.

One of 60 milestones restored to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, see publication (S2).
Milestone Society members cleaned and painted the lettering. The body of the milestone was left unpainted as it is believed to have never been painted.
