Summary

A watching brief in 2001, ahead of the construction of a bypass, revealed archaeological finds and features. The features discovered included prehistoric pits, Roman ditches, a possible post medieval enclosure and numerous undated ditches. Artefacts recovered included prehistoric worked flints, concentrations of burnt flint and Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery sherds.

Full description

February-March 2001. Watching brief.
Work undertaken during construction of A143 Broome to Ellingham Bypass. Contexts 1-523.
Revealed several ditches with Roman pottery. Also linear features and pits from which flints and prehistoric, medieval and post-medieval pottery were recovered.

The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.444).
