Summary
A Second World War anti-tank defence, consisting of five anti-tank blocks positioned on the north bank of the River Bure opposite Buxton Mill, is visible as extant structures on 1940s aerial photographs. Although later aerial photographs and site visits indicate that at least some of the blocks may still survive, most or all of them appear to have been moved from their original position. The defence is one of several located on river crossings in the area (see NHER 13662, 1.65km to the northwest, for example).

The Second World War anti-tank defence described above is visible as extant structures on 1940s aerial photographs (S2). It consisted of five anti-tank blocks positioned on the north bank of the River Bure opposite Buxton Mill. They may have formed part of a roadblock, and prevented vehicles accessing the riverbank. Although later aerial photographs (S1, S3) and site visits (described above) indicate that at least some of the blocks may still survive, most or all of them appear to have been moved from their original position. The defence is one of several located on river crossings in the area (see NHER 13662, 1.65km to the northwest, for example, and discussion in S4).
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 22 May 2023.
