Record Details

NHER Number:3113
Type of record:Monument
Name:Possible deserted medieval settlement, multi-period finds and prehistoric burnt mound

Summary

A medieval moat and associated enclosures, possibly representing a lost settlement are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. In 1959 flint and mortar foundations were discovered during ploughing. Finds collected included medieval and post-medieval pottery, coins, casting waste, jettons and metalwork. A 15th century gold ring with the Trinity illustrated on its central panel, a late medieval disc featuring the arms of England and a weight that may have been made in Germany are amongst the most important pieces of metalwork. A Roman harness fitting, prehistoric pot boliers and the site of a possible burnt mound have also been found. Metal-detecting between 2010 and 2017 recovered medieval and post-medieval coins, undated casting waste, a medieval strap-end and a post-medieval button.
