Summary
A medieval parish church, probably on the site of an earlier Saxon building, but mostly of 14th and 15th century date. The church contains good examples of 14th century wall paintings, and an unusual crypt underneath the chancel which is said to have been used to house prisoners being taken to trial in Norwich in the 18th and 19th centuries. There are some fine box pews. The church was restored in the 1980s.

Full description
Medieval parish church.
Remains of ironbound conglomerate quoins in chancel north and east walls, which suggests the presence of a Saxon church, either on this site, or nearby.
Nave arcades and doors 14th century.
Chancel mixture of Decorated and Perpendicular styles, very fine sedilia, crypt beneath floored with 14th century style tiles; nave and aisle windows Perpendicular, tall Perpendicular west tower with bell frame, suggests remodelling of whole church in early 15th century.
Embossed tiles discovered in 1920s, kept in church.
Fine collection of 15th to 18th century woodwork including box pews, and a 3 decker pulpit etc.
Many wall painting fragments from the 14th century.
Crypt underneath chancel with an inwards facing door, and original wooden fittings.
South aisle exterior drastically restored about 1980; tower under repair 1987.
