Earthworks.
Two adjacent earthwork enclosures. Western enclosure trapezoidal - no apparent entrance(s). Eastern enclosure subsquare with entrance on northeast corner.

Resembles a moated site.

January 1993.
Two adjacent trapezoidal enclosures, abutting River Wensum flood plain to south, interiors approximately 0.6m above it. Western enclosure ditched on west, partially on north and divided from other enclosure by a ditched causeway 0.3m high. The eastern enclosure has a 0.3m high platform in northeast corner, near to entrance causeway.
A further ditched causeway parallel to the eastern arm lies to the east.
Probably toft enclosures, unconvincing as moat.
Known by farmer as Castle Field, due to view of Morley Castle!

Site/field can be seen and some earthworks are visible, however part of field is underwater due to flooding of River Wensum.

Field bounded to north by substantial bank supporting aged trees with appearance of a possible lynchet. Running south from Park Farm a 12m wide droveway bounded by banks with very old laid hedge.

The extent of the site has been altered from TG 0262 1790 to TG 0282 1794.

The earthworks of a series of medieval enclosures, interpreted as tofts, are visible on aerial photographs of the Wesum Valley to the north of Castle Farm, Swanton Morley (S1, S5-S6). The site is centred on TG 0282 1794. The main cluster of earthworks is located at TG 0262 1790 and consists of a pair of rectilinear and trapezoidal enclosures, both with raised internal platforms. These enclosures are linked by a series of drainage channels and ditches. The extent of the site has been altered to include a number of similar earthworks visible on the aerial photographs further down the valley to the east, although these are much more fragmentary and may in fact represent the remains of flood defences and land divisions.
