Name:Site of Late Saxon settlement, medieval settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

This is the site a Late Saxon settlement, which had been deserted by about 1100. A settlement then developed here during the medieval period. Field walking has recovered prehistoric flints and pottery dating from the Roman to the post medieval periods.

Full description

1978 to 1984. Ordnance Survey field Great Fransham 357. Field walking, medium conditions.
Large quantity of Thetford ware and some Grimston Thetford.
Number of worked flints.
Medieval sherds including early medieval, Grimston, and St Neots.
Post medieval sherds including glazed red earthenware and stoneware.
Few Roman sherds.
