Name:Site of Early Saxon settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

This is the site of an Early Saxon settlement, and fragments of Early Saxon pottery have been found during field walking. Metal-detecting and field walking between 1978 and 2015 recovered prehistoric worked flints; Iron Age, Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins and undated and Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman button-and-loop fastener; Early Saxon dress accessories, brooch fragments and tweezers; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval strap-end or book clasp, key, sword scabbard chape, harenss mount and spur buckle; medieval/post-medieval lead weights and vessel and window came fragments; post-medieval cloth seals and undated spindle whorls, a mount and metalworking scrap.

Prehistoric sherds and flints; Roman sherds including bowl rim; large quantity Early Saxon wares including decorated; Ipswich and Thetford wares; medieval sherds including Early medieval and Grimston; post medieval including glazed red earthenware; Miscellaneous sherds; pottery spindle whorl; iron Knife; lead bar; tiles; clay pipe.
