Summary
Metal detecting recovered parts of two Early Saxon brooches. The site has been interpreted as being an Early Saxon cemetery. A medieval seal matrix was also found. Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered pieces of medieval pottery but no further evidence for the Early Saxon cemetery.

Full description
1981. Found with metal detector north of Wood Hall Road.
Context 1 at above grid reference.
Bronze small-long square headed brooch, with remains of iron spring. Punched decoration. No footplate surviving, (S6).
Identified by A. Rogerson (NAU), 2 December 1981.
March 1982.
Now part of KLM.
Early 1983. Found with metal detector.
Context 2 at 6266 9805.
Fragment of small-long brooch.

A. Rogerson (NAU) believes the whole field should be numbered as the two finds suggest a cemetery site.

Seal matrix, oval, lead or lead alloy, 2mm thick. No means of attachment, back plain.
