Name:Group of Bronze Age round barrows

Summary

A group of five Bronze Age round barrows exist here. Four survive as earthworks, with one ploughed flat. Four, including the ploughed barrow, were excavated in 1842. One contained a pottery vessel whilst another had an upside down pot which held fragmentary human bones, a bronze pin or awl and six or seven gold beads.

Full description

Great Bircham round barrow group.

Five barrows (context 5 is not scheduled), excavated 1842.
Urns, awl, gold beads found.

One of the pottery vessels from this site is listed in (S8) as a later Bronze Age Biconical Urn.
