Full description

On overflow stream from Pedham lake. Site of Petty Mill (water mill). Marked on (S1).
E. Rose (NAU) 7 January 1979.

Peaty Mill on (S2). Also marked on (S3) though position is a little vague.
Information from A. Rogerson (NAU).

(S4) under Langley notes a bequest of rent in around 1150 for a mill at 'Pedeham'. As noted above the (S2) calls the lake Peaty Mill Dam and it has been assumed the name Pedham is a modern corruption. There is no other similar known placename in Norfolk. (S1) calls the mill Petty mill. Is therefore Pedeham the original form and the others corruptions rather than vice versa?
E. Rose (NLA) 24 July 2001.
