Glowing Embers
The year follows its continual cycle,
embracing promise and strength of light,
as the summit of solstice draws nigh.
Late May sun sinks low in western sky
and waters ebb, flowing towards
the power of silent, silver moon.
Their retreating caress reveals
embers of an ancient age,
set aglow by kiss of receding rays,
A rite of passage set in circular form.
A sacred grove of magical oak,
Reflecting the unending cycle of earthly life
And the beginning of another, yet to come.
Replaying memories of life long ago
To those prepared to silently listen.
This image was painted as a triptych to symbolise the cycle of Life, Death and Rebirth. It also reflects the triple aspects of the Goddess based religion of the time; Maid, Mother and Crone (or wise woman) which correspond to the phases of the moon; Maid - new moon, Mother - full moon, Crone - old moon.
