Full description
November 1951. Stray Find.
In dumps of soil north-west of Gargle Hill Plantation removed from topsoil in making new road for housing estate.
Saddle quern, calcined flints and sherds of coarse Late Bronze Age pottery, (S1). [1]
Compiled by R. R. Clarke (NCM).
The pottery is described in (S2) as being from the same plain bowl with a heavy inturned rim in a coarse, flint-tempered fabric. The rim is described as being without close parallels, although it is noted that similar examples occur in Middle Neolithic Peterborough Ware assemblages and "…the pot seems most likely to lie in this tradition".
P. Watkins (HES), 30 October 2024.
