Full description

September 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of a World War Two spigot mortar emplacement/airfield defence post are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) to the west of Snetterton and Eccles Road Airfield (NHER 9068). At least five further defence posts are visible 500m to the south (NHER 53396).
The site is centred on TL 9950 9052 and consists of an open ditch or pit approximately 7.5m by 4.7m, surrounded by a raised bank approximately 13m in total external diameter. The central pit would probably have contained a concrete pin or gun emplacement, but this is not visible on the aerial photographs. It is possible to make out these features on at least one of the defence posts to the south (NHER 53396).
E. Bales (NMP), 12 September 2012.
