Summary
Earthworks of 19th century floated water meadows were surveyed. The meadows were probably created in the 19th century by Nathan Lucas of Lynford Hall. Their creation was part a larger regional trend for reclamation and landscape improvement schemes carried out by large estates. The water medows are in close proximity to Lyford Hall (NHER 5150) and gardens (NHER 30470).

As of 2000 this site was grazing land and details of the water channels could still be made out.
The site is now used for gravel extraction.

An area of 19th century water meadows are seen as earthworks on aerial photographs (S7 and S9) and recently (2015) visualised lidar data (S8). There are four main areas of water meadows with a fifth possible area located at TL 8144 9449. The water meadow ridges have been mapped by extent of area from the 1940s aerial photographs (S7). There is also a mounded area which may relate to a raised trackway and drainage ditches. The earthworks can be seen well on the 1940s aerial photographs and have eroded slightly over time, with their current extent visible on the visualised lidar data (S8). It has previously been suggested (see above) that the earthworks have been levelled due to gravel extraction. However this area has not been subjected to gravel extraction and given the recent date of the lidar (S8) and Google Earth images (S9), the features most likely still survive as earthworks presently. The earthworks are in close proximity to Lynford Hall (NHER 5150) and gardens (NHER 30470).
