Name:Roman pottery sherd concentration, Roman and medieval pottery sherds

Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a couple of medieval and Roman pottery sherds from the east end of this field in the vicinity of a medium to large roddon. A sparse scatter of Roman pottery sherds were also noted, as well as a possible weight and some briquetage.

Full description

17 February 1984. Well weathered soil but winter wheat still on and some stubble not ploughed in properly.
Context 1 - Couple of medieval sherds, and couple of Roman from east end and in vicinity of medium to large roddon.

Context 2 at 5259 1504. Sparse scatter Roman sherds at 6ft OD, approximately 30 x 15m.
Also fired clay object with hole, probably a weight, ?Roman. Material is within 10-15m of roadside dyke around 2m deep, apart from odd sherds beyond.
