Full description

Around 1930s - 1950s. Stray Finds.
Collection of flint tools made by [1] from "fields each side of Heath Lane between Tittleshall village and Weasenham Woods". Probably overlapping sites NHER 17064-7.
1 Mesolithic tranchet axe, triangular section, 142mm x 45mm, pale flint, very iron stained.
14 blades and blade fragments (none specifically Mesolithic, probably Neolithic).
14 end scrapers, all rounded, including 1 thumbnail, and 1 of more Mesolithic type.
1 side scraper.
1 Neolithic sickle fragment, finely worked, very glossy.
14 flake tools.
6 struck flakes.
3 hammerstones of flint.
4 miscellaneous tools.
6 arrowhead fragments, mostly of leaf-shaped, but 1 possibly of barbed type.
One tiny sherd of hard, extremely gritty fabric, almost black in colour. Too small to identify but fabric suggests not prehistoric.
E. Rose (NAU), 27 April 1981. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 6 August 2013.
