Summary

A Roman brooch, a Roman coin of Nero, several fragments of burnt Early Saxon brooch including one piece with molten glass fused to it and a cast for an Early Saxon belt plate were found here by metal detecting. The burnt brooch fragments probably came from nearby Early Saxon cremation burials.

April 1994. Metal detecting.
Roman coin. See list in file.
Roman plate brooch 2nd century disc type, slightly domed, enamelled in centre, deep channel around border. Chain loop at top.
Burnt divided foot of Early Saxon cruciform brooch with huge nostrils and fragment of glass attached to rear.
Burnt bow of Early Saxon long brooch with blob of bronze attached. See (S1).
Lead model ?for Early Saxon belt plate, fragment of raised border with zone of ?style 1 decoration. See (S1).
Suspension ring, with signs of wear in one place. ?Early Saxon. See (S1).
Slightly less than half an annular brooch of rolled sheet with punched dots along edges. See (S1).
