Summary

Metal-detecting on this field has recovered a wide range of prehistoric, Roman, Late Saxon and medieval finds including a 1st century AD Roman coin, a Late Saxon strap fitting decorated with a stylised leaf ornament, two medieval coins of Edward I, a medieval cauldron leg and possible bird feeder, a post medieval Charles I penny, and a Norfolk farthing token.

Full description

Autumn 1988. Metal detecting.
Penny John/Henry III class 5 or 6.
Penny Edward III CIVITAS LONDON.
Vespasian As ?AEQVITAS AUGUSTI 69-79.
Illegible probably Roman.

Late Saxon copper alloy openwork strap end, same on both sides (top missing). Stylised leaf ornament, moulded knob at base. Bosses around edge on frame. See (S1).
Medieval copper alloy harness pendant fragment, with suspension loop roughly circular and partly missing.

Medieval copper alloy casket key, lozengiform bow with circular central opening and two side lobes, and upper lobe with two transverse engraved lines.

Medieval cauldron foot fragment. Copper alloy.
Spout of medieval ewer, moulding near effluent end, perhaps very stylised ears. Copper alloy.
Copper alloy medieval belt-mount. Two rectangular plates with rocker arm decoration on front plate. Pierced hole in centre. Single rivet at each end. Leather inside.
Late medieval buckle, double looped, leaf terminal at one end. One loop is rectangular, other oval. Remains of iron from pin. Copper alloy.
