NHER Number:23847
Type of record:Monument
Name:Possible Roman settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking in this area between 1987 and 2013 recovered a large number of objects, with the amount of Roman material indicating that a settlement existed here at this time. The Roman finds include pottery sherds, coins, brooches, a silver finger ring and a lead steelyard weight. Other finds recovered included Palaeolithic, Mesolithic/Neolithic, Neolithic and undatable prehistoric worked flints; medieval and post-medieval coins and Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include an Iron Age terret fragment, an Early Saxon brooch and medieval to post-medieval dress accessories and post-medieval lead cloth seals.
