Record Details

NHER Number:16779
Type of record:Monument
Name:Possible Roman settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

Fieldwalking and metal detecting in this area during the period 1980-97 recovered various artefacts. Finds of note included a prehistoric flint scraper, a Late Iron Age or early Roman brooch, an Early Saxon brooch, a medieval seal matrix and post medieval French and German jettons. A scatter of Roman pottery sherds and building material, along with numerous Roman metal objects and at least ninety Roman coins, may indicate this was the location of a Roman settlement.
