Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey found a scatter of medieval pottery and a concentration of Roman pottery and oyster shells. Metal detecting has recovered metal finds dating from the Roman to the post medieval period. Roman finds include coins, pins, an enamelled brooch and part of a bracelet with snake heads decoration. Part of an Early Saxon brooch was also found.

Full description

17 April 1986. Fieldwalking, weathered ploughsoil. East Meadowgate (part of); former orchard.
Context 1 = general scatter medieval sherds. EMN, NCM.
Context 2 at 4832 0763 Concentration sparse Roman pottery and few oystershell frags. Post medieval moderate to south where some grey soil associated. 30m east to west x 16m north to south at 3.1m OD. EMN 2, NCM.
