Name:Multi-period finds and possible medieval settlement

Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1991 and 2018 recovered medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval roof tile and medieval/post-medieval brick fragments; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and Roman and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include Roman brooches; part of a Late Saxon bridle; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval ampulla, bell, weight, hook, cauldron fragment, horseshoe, key, stud, seal matrix decorated with an elaborate flower, possible ceiling and wall ornaments and harness fittings, mounts and pendants; a medieval/post-medieval writing implement, lead weight and copper alloy vessel fragments and a post-medieval bell, dagger and strap fitting.
The large selection of medieval objects recovered is probably indicative of a settlement of that date.
