Full description

1989. Metal detecting finds. Finder's Field 5. Scatter includes two other sites [1].
Two 4th century Roman coins. See list in file.
Middle Saxon facetted-headed pin, decorated with ring and dot.
Medieval finds: Boy Bishop lead token, one penny, inscribed SANTVS NICHOLAVS. Part missing, engraved decoration on both inside and outside.
Gilt-copper alloy ring brooch with three bosses containing white paste. Engraved decoration on both inside and outside.
Broken at pin bar.
Silver collar in form of decorated buckle round a tooth, projecting copper alloy shank on reverse. Pin for hat? Compare with finger rings in form of buckle.

Roman globular headed pin.
Colchester type two piece brooch.
Seven 3rd/4th century coins. 3 coins gilded. See list in file.

?Early Saxon/Medieval brooch pin (head in 3 fragments) with sheet bronze double 'boxes' forming head.
Middle Saxon base sceat (silver plated), see (S1).
Copper alloy purse bar, swivel loop and central shield-shaped boss, one arm missing. Shield decorated with overlapping chevrons on one face, and cross-hatching on other inlaid with neillo. Bar itself decorated with pairs of criss-crossing lines inlaid with niello and with rocker arm ornament in spaces between the lines.
