Record Details

NHER Number:35976
Type of record:Monument
Name:Possible Roman settlement

Summary

An interesting collection of Roman finds has been made at this site by metal detecting. A complete copper alloy bowl dating to the 1st or 2nd century AD was found near Roman pottery and undated metal working waste and animal bones. Metal detecting in the same general area also discovered one Iron Age copper coin, thirty-eight copper alloy Roman coins dating from the 1st to the 4th century AD and several Roman brooches. This might be an area of Roman settlement. A Late Saxon angled stirrup mount, several medieval lead pot mends and some post medieval coins have also been recovered.
