Summary

This is the site of a Roman settlement, which continues into NHER 18849. Roman coins, pottery and tiles have been found by metal detecting, as well as a Roman bracelet and Roman brooches. Finds from other periods include a fragment of a Late Bronze Age scabbard chape, an incomplete Early Saxon girdle hanger and medieval dress accessories.

Full description

1989. Strip about 30 metres wide along east edge of field, with little or nothing to west; edge of Roman site NHER 18849. [1].
51 Roman coins, see list in file.
4 Roman coarseware sherds.
One tegula fragment and one Roman tile fragment.
Upper part of Hod Hill brooch. Prominent centred rib on ow, apparently undecorated. 43 to 70 AD.
T shaped brooch, head and upper bow only; spring missing. Double perforated lug; wide bow with slight marginal mouldings. Late 1st to mid 2nd century AD.
Bracelet fragment. Multiple unit type? Zone of diagonal transverse grooves next to fragment of eye? Terminal. 4th century. Terminal of Roman snake's head bracelet.
