Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking recovered a heavy scatter of Roman pottery, objects and coins. These included pottery dating to the 3rd to 4th century AD and large amounts of building material. Tessera may also have been found. These finds suggests this may be the site of a Roman building.

Full description

1980. Fieldwalking on ploughed surface. Continuing scatter from site NHER 3980 to west. Context 9.
Heavy scatter Roman coarsewares mainly 3rd to 4th century; large quantities tegulae, imbrices, flue and bonding tiles. Also Samian sherd Dragendorf F18 or 18/31 with graffiti 'ht' and possible tessera; not recorded whether these latter items came from this site or NHER 3980.
