Summary

Excavations in the ground of Bird's Corner revealed a medieval hearth and evidence for probable domestic occupation. More evidence, including medieval pottery, was uncovered in footing trenches during development on the site

Full description

August 1988. Excavation in grounds of house. Bird's Corner.
Medieval sherds found during building work. Hearths and medieval material found.

A. Rogerson (NAU) notes this is apparently not a saltboiling site or ironworking as suggested by excavators, but purely domestic.

1997. Observations of excavations for extension to adjacent house.
Further evidence of medieval occupation seen in trench. Stratigraphy with one medieval sherd in situ.
