Summary

Sporadic metal-detecting between 1988 and 2012 recovered a Late Prehistoric flint core; Late Saxon, medieval and medieval/post-medieval pottery; Roman, Middle Saxon and medieval coins; a medieval French jetton and Roman to Early Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and undated metal finds. The coins included an 8th century gold dinar of Abbasid, only the second to be found in Britain and a contemporary forgery of a gold coin of Offa minted by Oethelred before AD 792, which was unique when identified.
Other metal finds included a Roman/Early Saxon “Door knob” spear butt; a Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount; a medieval horse harness pendant, lead seal matrix and pot mends; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel rim and lead weight and undatable casting waste.
