Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwork have revealed the site of a possible Roman settlement, a Middle to Late Saxon settlement, port and market and a medieval settlement with a possible lime kiln. This site is located within the area of NHER 25962. Finds from here include prehistoric pottery sherds, part of a Bronze Age flat axehead, Roman brooches and coins, an Early Saxon brooch and girdle hanger, Middle Saxon pins and brooches, Late Saxon strap ends and medieval pottery sherds and coins.

Large quantities of Early Saxon (S3), Middle Saxon (S2), Late Saxon (S2, S5 and S8) and medieval metalwork.

Middle Saxon and Late Saxon metalwork. Small Finds 19 to 34. See drawings (S2), (S5) and (S6).
These finds include a silver hooked tag fragment that was one of several objects acquired by Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1986.245.2). A smaller, joining fragment of this hooked tag found nearby in early 2006 is recorded under NHER 25962 (also acquired by Norwich Castle Museum, accessioned as NWHCM : 2007.342).
