Full description

Pre 1982. Stray Find.
Found 'some years before' 1982 on surface and 'close together' (grid reference approximate):
2 prehistoric flint adzes, both of triangular section:
(i) White patinated flint with iron staining. 13.5cm long x 4cm maximum width. See illustration in file (S1).
(ii) Brown flint. 10cm by 4cm maximum width. (S2).
Farmer did not report them before as he thought they were 'just a couple of old scrapers'.
Information via [1].
Potentially Mesolithic?
E. Rose (NAU), 18 February 1982.

R. Jacobi (British Museum) now believes that triangular-sectioned axes are Neolithic not Mesolithic, and therefore these should be indexed under Neolithic as well as Mesolithic.
A. Lawson (NAU), 22 March 1982.

However Jacobi has since identified similar axes from Hampstead Heath as Mesolithic.
E. Rose (NAU), 29 March 1982.
