Name:Post-medieval ditches and multi-period finds

Summary

Prehistoric to post medieval artefacts, including prehistoric worked flints, Roman and medieval coins and pottery, a Late Saxon strap end, and post-medieval coins, jettons, tokens and weights were discovered by metal-detecting and fieldwalking. A geophysical survey in 2012/2013 identifed a several probable ditches, the majority of which appear to correspond with former post-medieval field boundaries.

1979 to 1980. Metal-detecting. Field across road from St Faith's Fair (NHER 8126).
Roman coin.
Medieval, (S2) to post medieval metalwork, coins, tokens and pottery in large quantities deriving from proximity to fairstead.

Finds recovered included:
12 prehistoric worked flints.
1 ?prehistoric burnt flint.
3 post-medieval coins, 1 pottery sherd, 1 thimble, 1 buckle, 1 copper alloy pierced disc, 1 copper alloy decorative sheet and 1 copper alloy plate fragment.
1 post-medieval/modern copper alloy collar.
2 undatable copper alloy plate fragments, 1 copper alloy sheet fragment, 1 lead sheet fragment, 1 lead ?stud, 1 lead waste fragment and 6 miscellaneous lead fragments.
