Summary

A medieval seal with the Virgin and St Anne was found before 1806 when a ditch was dug at Besthorpe. The inscription was mostly illegible and the seal was destroyed by its owner who thought it was 'Papist'.

Some years before 1806. Found in digging a ditch at Besthorpe.
Seal showing Virgin and Child with St. Anne (?), and inscription mostly illegible. Impression taken by Burrell of Thetford.
Original destroyed by owner at Attleborough as he thought it was 'Papist'. Impression in rear cover of (S1).
