Record Details

NHER Number:11816
Type of record:Monument
Name:Cropmarks and multi-period finds

Summary

A small complex of sub rectangular cropmarks (possibly a moat), trackways and a possible posthole building can be seen on aerial photographs of this area. Metal detecting and fieldwalking have recovered a wide variety of finds dating from the Iron Age to the post medieval period. Highlights include an Iron Age silver coin, Roman brooches, an Early Saxon mount, a possible Viking pendant and a 12th to 13th century copper alloy cross showing Christ crucified. These finds are part of a larger Roman to Early Medieval settlement and Early Saxon cemetery complex evident at NHER 3565, NHER 11743, NHER 25765, NHER 30690, NHER 30754, and NHER 31073.
