Summary

The site of an Bronze Age round barrow, where prehistoric flint flakes have been found. The discovery of an Early Saxon copper alloy brooch and spearhead suggest that this is also the site of a possible Early Saxon inhumation cemetery.

Full description

Area [1]. 4 tracks or roads meet here.
First observed 7 May 1927 by [2] very much flattened and spread.
About 170m OD, Leaders Spinney not named on 1920 1 inch OS.
Circular, no signs of ditch.
Approximate dimensions diameter 60 paces, about 54m. Height about 1.3m, [1], 13 August 1925.

Difficult to determine edge of bowl. No signs of excavation. Grass meadow, no trees on tumulus.
Only one flake seen, from rabbit burrow on mound.
The 'track' referred to above is probably an ancient one as it forms, with existing roads, practically a straight line from Larlingford to New Buckenham, Hargate etc.
