Full description

October 2003. Norfolk NMP.
A group of earthwork pits and trenches are visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1950 (S1) on the north western edge of Muckleburgh Hill, overlooking Weybourne Camp (NHER 11335). All of these features appear to relate to World War Two activity of the hill, whether this was part of training or real defence is not certain. The largest feature is an oblong pit centred on TG 0991 4326, measuring 9m by 6m. Just to the east of this at TG 0992 4325 is another pit, measuring 4m by 3m. Several sections of trench are also visible, running from TG 0984 4326 to TG 0985 4326 and from TG 0985 4326, both are roughly ‘U-shaped’ and 1m wide. At TG 0988 4326 is an oval pit, 2m by 1.5m, from which a line of trench continues to TG 09892 43275. The earthworks appear to be sections of slit trench and possible weapons pits, although the larger pits may have another function.
S. Massey (NMP), 17 November 2003.

November 2013. Field visit.
The western half of the site was explored. No earthworks survive in this area.
D. Robertson (HES), 29 November 2013.
