Name:Site of Early Saxon inhumation cemetery and multi-period finds

Summary

Metal-detecting in 2006 and 2014 recovered Neolithic flint flakes; medieval pottery sherds; Roman and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and Late Bronze Age and Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead; Roman brooches and a lead pattern or model for the manufacture of brooches; Early Saxon brooches, sleeve clasps and strap-ends; a Middle or Late Saxon hooked tag; a Late Saxon bridle bit; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval brooch and part of a knife; a medieval/post-medieval weight and post-medieval crotal bell and a harness mount.
The number of Early Saxon objects recovered suggests that this is the site of an Early Saxon inhumation cemetery.
