Summary

Metal-detecting in 2004 and fieldwalking in 2012 recovered prehistoric worked flints including a Mesolithic or Neolithic flint blade; Roman and Late Saxon to post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval to modern ceramic building material including a post-medieval malting kiln flue tile fragment; post-medieval clay tobacco pipe fragments; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons; a post-medieval token and Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman brooch; Late Saxon stirrup; medieval and post-medieval dress accessories and copper alloy vessel fragments; a medieval papal bull, harness pendant, key and thimble and a post-medieval cloth seal. Further prehistoric worked flints were also found in 2010 as stray finds.

Full description

August-September 2004. Metal-detecting.
1 Mesolithic/Early Neolithic utilised flint blade.
1 Iron Age coin.
6 Roman coins and 1 ?composite plate brooch fragment.
1 Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount.
2 medieval coins, 1 jetton, 1 key, 2 composite strap-ends, 1 thimble, 1 buckle frame, 1 ?folding strap clasp fragment, 1 lead papal bulla (Alexander IV) and 2 horse-harness pendants (inc 1 gilt).
1 medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel leg fragment.
7 post-medieval coins, 2 tokens, 2 jettons, 2 buttons, 1 lead cloth seal, 1 lead weight, 1 hooked tag, 1 tinned dress fastener, 2 dice and 1 gilt belt mount.
1 undated/post-medieval unidentified object (?mount).
