Name:Site of Roman settlement and salt works

Summary

An excavation in 1998 revealed evidence of Roman settlement and salt-production. The cropmarks of a possible Roman field system are visible on aerial photographs. Metal detecting on the site has recovered a Bronze Age razor, a large amount of Roman pottery, coins and metal finds including two brooches, an Early Saxon girdle hanger, a Late Saxon brooch and medieval and post medieval coins and metal finds.

Pre 1946.
Circles seen as cropmarks.

R.R. Clarke (NCM) suggests Roman origin, but Mr Riley now believes all these small circles are for drying haystacks in recent times.

No trace on ground (or of any other of Riley's circle sites).
